A New Investigator - We Rate 200 Points, "The Collective," and a Church Called Hope!

Heya everyone,

So this week was yet again a slow week.

Kenny was busy with work and it's been hard to get in touch with some of the other people we've been working with.

We met with Elizabeth and she is struggling at the moment with lots of things with her family so her heart isn't fully in the Gospel at the moment.

We did get a new investigator named Allan Blackie though, who we got from the Dumfries Elders. He's a really nice guy who has been through a lot and for a while he was investigating the JW's.

He said if he could rate us and them by points they'd get 10 points and we'd get 200 haha!

We also had the Worldwide Mission broadcast in Edinburgh which was very good.

During the week we went to a town called Peebles and we met this guy named Cliff who told us we could come back. So Saturday we went back out to do some more finding and to try-by and his partner let us in. We scheduled a time to meet with them to teach them and they seem well prepared :)

Forgot to mention this chapping story.

So the first day in the week that we went to Peebles, we were chapping and we knocked on this guy's door who's name was Stuart.

He said he wasn't interested to hear what we have to say because we were from "The Collective".

He began to monologue about church's being collectives and that Jesus Christ was a "9th-dimensional being". He went on to say that he is a "5th-dimensional being" and that all other reformers were 5th and 7th dimensional beings.

He said that most people are hovering on the 2nd or 3rd dimension and all of us are trying to access the higher dimensions (except the 4th dimension because information from that one is full of lies and deception so he was probably saying that one is churches.) So yea that's Stuart.....

Oh I also forgot to mention went to another church called Hope church yesterday which was kinda similar to the church I went to in Galway with Elder Shubin except no "gifts of tongues" going on.:)

Well today is Burns Night so tonight going to be having some haggis, neeps (turnips), and tatties (potatoes)  for dinner.

P.S. Here is the pic of the dent in the car if none of you see it then thats good cause that means no one can see it when we drive around :)

NOTES from MOM:

BURNS NIGHT

A Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, author of many Scots poems. The suppers are normally held on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January, rarely also known as Robert Burns Day (or Robbie Burns Day or Rabbie Burns Day) or more commonly Burns Night (Scots: Burns Nicht), although they may in principle be held at any time of the year.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burns_supper

ROBERT BURNS

January 25, 1759 to July 26, 1796

Burns was born on a wild and windy night in Alloway on the Ayrshire coast of Scotland, in the family house his father, William, had built with his own hands. Robert was the eldest of seven children.

Robert Burns died in Dumfries on 26th July, 1796, on the same day that his wife gave birth to their ninth child, a son, Maxwell. He succumbed to a form of rheumatic fever, which would have been easily treatable today.  (For information on Robert Burns see http://www.scotland.org/features/scotlands-bard/ )

PEEPLES

The Ancient and Royal Burgh of Peebles is a genteel, handsome town on the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders.

The town of Peebles is situated in the west of the Scottish Borders, just 45 minutes away from Edinburgh.

The town pre-dates the reign of King David I (1124-53). The monarchy made many visits in the 15th and 16th centuries - by King James III in particular. Peebles was relatively untouched by the conflict that characterised life in the Borders at that time.

An All Right Week, Teaching, Chapping and Pinned Between Cars!

Heya everyone,

So this week was all right, it was kinda slow though teaching wise.

We got to teach Kenny the police officer while I was on exchanges with Elder Crowe and we taught the Restoration. Kenny is already about halfway through 1 Nephi and was asking us questions about it and he’s a really nice guy :)

We also taught Dougie the Word of Wisdom because he asked about the church's policy about drinking.

For the most part otherwise we’ve been out chapping.

Had some interesting people we have talked with this week one being a guy named Adrian who had us a late to a D.A. (dinner appointment) for bashing with us that we need to be vegetarian before he’d read the BOM (Book of Mormon).

So I forgot to tell a funny story that happened to our car the previous week.

So we were turning the car around after chapping to go to a D.A. and I was backing up the car to follow the mission rule. Well there wasn’t much space to reverse in between two cars so I stood next to one as Elder Gullion reversed by me to make sure he wouldn’t scrape the car. As he drove by the car kinda pinned me up against the other car I was standing in front of and I couldn’t move at all.

Elder Gullion also couldn’t pull forward otherwise he’d end up hurting me so we were stuck. I then just pushed and turned sideways and popped out.... as well as creating a big dent in the side of our car when I turned, haha!

I’m okay for all who are wondering just had a bruise on my right buttock for a day.

That’s all for this week, take care and God Bless!

Love,

Elder Tarbet (Wolverine)

If All Else Fails, Get Out and Push!

Heya everyone, so had an interesting week.

Tuesday we had Zone Interview Training, which was good, got to speak to president and receive some training.

Wednesday we met with Elizabeth and blessed her home cause she said she was having Satan attack her in her sleep and wasn’t feeling well in her home.

She’s also been smoking again so we cant baptize her till she gets off :(

Friday was really crazy.

On our way out to Hawick it was dumping snow really bad to the point where our car along with a load of others were getting stuck up a hill on the way out.

We decided to turn around to head back so we wouldn’t be stuck in Hawick for the evening and turned out to be a hard trip.

It took us 3 hours to get home.

The first 1 and a half was waiting from car and the second half was me pushing the car up another hill haha.

It sucked but at the same time was fun.

We scheduled an appointment to see Kenny again tomorrow and we finally got a hold of Kate again who was going through some struggles this week.

Take care and God bless (that there won’t be more snow.)

Love you,

Elder Tarbet (Wolverine)

NOTES ADDED by MOM:
Scotland has been hit by some strong storms over the last month or so. They have gone from flooding in some areas to snow in others. Below are a couple of reports of the snow conditions on Friday, January 8, 2016 and some pictures from ITV News and the Dailymail.com in the Scottish Border towns within Elder Tarbet's area. Elder Tarbet was probably stuck in the gridlock on the A7 going out of Galashiels to Hawick.

Happy New Year!

Heya everyone,

Happy New Year!

We got two new investigators this week a guy named Daniel that we chapped into and a guy named Ross who was a potential when I got here but hadn't heard from in awhile.

We taught both the Restoration and they are both really nice guys.

We also got to be with the Blacks and they fed us some great fish pie and we taught them the GOJC (Gospel of Jesus Christ). It was really good but they can't accept baptism at the moment because they aren't able to make it out to the church at the moment from certain factors preventing them so just got to have faith in the Lord that a way will be provided for them to get there.

Had New Years and just relaxed all day in the flat and New Years Eve we were with a younger family in the branch, the Braithwaites.

We had Mark's partner Una, who's LA come to church and we also taught Dougie in the week the POS (Plan of Salvation).

I forgot to mention last week that the prior week before Christmas Kate said her first out loud prayer ever so we were really happy for her but she isn't doing so well health wise.

Hope yous all had a great New Year day.

I wish yous all the best this year! God bless.

 Love
